Rudolf Lutz, Dell'Orto and Lanzini Organ (1990)
Organ improvisation has long been celebrated as a pinnacle of artistry and a vital skill for organists throughout history. Achieving mastery in this craft has always demanded a rare combination of natural talent and deep musical expertise. In the past, aspiring church organists would often face rigorous improvisation tests, where they were challenged to rework sacred melodies on the spot. These auditions allowed judges to assess their creativity and skill, with the most imaginative performers standing the best chance of earning the coveted role.
Inspired by this tradition, today’s programme invites the artist to showcase their talent and originality by improvising on themes drawn from both sacred music, rooted in Catholic and Protestant traditions, and secular melodies. The result promises to be a truly unique and unforgettable experience.
